Verizon's iPhone Handoff Fee: $10/Month, Double T-Mobile — The Feature Works With the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro, and AT&T Isn't Supporting It at All

The iOS 27 feature lets one phone number move between two iPhones, like the new iPhone Duo and the iPhone 18 Pro — and now has three very different carrier price tags attached to it.

Key takeaway: Verizon confirmed on October 16, 2026 that iPhone Handoff will cost $10 a month on its network, twice what T-Mobile already charges for the same iOS 27 feature, while AT&T isn't supporting it at all.

Verizon confirmed on October 16, 2026 that it will charge $10 a month for iPhone Handoff, the iOS 27 feature that lets a single phone number move between two separate iPhones, according to MacRumors and 9to5Mac. That's double what T-Mobile already charges for the identical feature: $5 a month. AT&T, meanwhile, isn't supporting iPhone Handoff at all, per 9to5Mac's reporting.

Handoff isn't the same thing as a dual-SIM phone running two numbers at once. Only one of the two iPhones is actually active on the cellular network at any given time — the number lives on whichever device the owner switches it to, and switching between them is meant to happen at will rather than requiring a new activation each time. Verizon's own description frames it around keeping access to its 5G network no matter which of the two phones currently holds the active number.

Verizon names two specific devices as compatible: the iPhone Duo, Apple's new book-style foldable, and the iPhone 18 Pro. Both outlets note the feature is described more broadly as working with "compatible iPhone models running iOS 27," which leaves room for Apple or Verizon to extend it to other iPhones later without a separate announcement.

The pricing gap gets more interesting once a third carrier enters the picture: 9to5Mac reports that Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile's German parent company, already offers the equivalent of Handoff for €6.95 a month (roughly $7.55) through its existing MultiSIM service — a price that sits between T-Mobile's US rate and Verizon's. Among every carrier that has actually named a price, Verizon's $10 is the highest, and AT&T's lack of support means some Verizon customers don't even have the option of switching carriers to get the feature cheaper.

The real-world use case is narrower than the feature's name suggests: this is for someone who owns two physical iPhones — a Duo and a standard phone, say, or a personal and work device — and wants one phone number to follow them between the two rather than juggling two separate lines. For that specific situation, $10 a month is a recurring cost for something that, on T-Mobile, costs half as much for the identical underlying iOS feature; it isn't a hardware or network difference, just a carrier price set on top of software Apple built once.

One detail worth noting before anyone budgets for it: Verizon's own announcement describes Handoff support as "coming soon" rather than giving a firm live date, so the $10 monthly charge isn't actually billable yet even for Verizon customers who already own both a compatible iPhone and iOS 27. The price is confirmed; the ability to actually turn the feature on is not, at least as of this announcement.
