Samsung Starts One UI 9 (Android 17) for the Galaxy S23, Z Fold5, Z Flip5 and Galaxy A37, Starting in South Korea

The rollout has moved from the S26 to the S24 and now older phones. Outside South Korea, there are no dates yet.

Key takeaway: Samsung began rolling out stable One UI 9 (Android 17) to the Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 on October 14, 2026 and to the Galaxy A27 and A37 on October 15, in South Korea first; other regions have no dates.

Samsung widened the stable rollout of One UI 9, its Android 17 software, to older Galaxy phones this week. On October 14, 2026, GSMArena reported that the update had started for the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra and for the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 in South Korea. A day later, on October 15, it reported that the Galaxy A27 and A37 were receiving the update in South Korea too, with the Galaxy A36 and A56 also reported by SamMobile as getting it.

The S23-series and foldable update is going first to people enrolled in Samsung's beta program. GSMArena says beta users get a download of under 500 MB, while people outside the beta get a much larger package of about 3 GB. It should reach non-beta users in South Korea and other regions soon, GSMArena says, but gives no dates. The build ending GZIF is mentioned for beta users. For the A-series, GSMArena lists firmware A276KKSU3BZIF for the Galaxy A27 and A376NKSU3BZI6 for the Galaxy A37, and says it is still waiting for details on the A36 and A56. It gives no timing for any region outside South Korea.

This is the third stage of a rollout that has moved down the line over the past month. 9to5Google reported on October 12 that One UI 9 was available in the US and South Korea for the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, and that Samsung's Galaxy S26 phones had received it about a month before. GSMArena reported the same day that the S24 update had reached AT&T and T-Mobile phones in the US, was almost 4 GB over the air and carried the September 2026 security patch. The unlocked US Fold6 build is F956U1UEU4EZIH and the Flip6 build is F741U1UEU4EZIH. SamMobile reported on October 13 that the Fold6 and Flip6 update was spreading beyond the US and South Korea, with India among the first countries.

What One UI 9 adds, per 9to5Google's October 12 report: My FanCam for automatic subject tracking in video, generative and editable Now Brief cards, new Galaxy AI features including Now Nudge, Creative Studio, Interpreter, Document Scan and Voice Recorder, and security tools including Security Brief, Privacy Alerts and Scam Detection. SamMobile adds more Quick Panel customization, improvements to Samsung DeX and Samsung Notes, and a location privacy indicator. GSMArena's reader comments are mixed and anecdotal: some say the phone feels smoother after updating, one says it is a mess and says they went back to One UI 8.5 on a Galaxy S25 Edge.

What it means if you own one of these phones. If you are in South Korea, check Settings > Software update now. Everywhere else, expect to wait: Samsung delivers major updates in stages by country and carrier, and the A-series updates reported so far are for South Korea only. We did not find a Samsung-published global schedule, so any date you see for your country is a prediction. Back up first, use Wi-Fi, and plan for a download of several gigabytes if you are not in the beta. For the S24 series, the update is already out in the US.

We have not installed One UI 9 on any of these phones; the details above are as reported by GSMArena, 9to5Google and SamMobile on the dates given.
