Galaxy S26 FE vs S25 FE: What's the Difference? — Same Battery and Cameras on Paper, About $50 More for a Newer Chip

Samsung's new Fan Edition keeps the screen, battery and camera hardware of last year's phone and changes the chip, the price and the length of software support.

Samsung's Galaxy S26 FE went on sale on September 4, 2026 at $699.99 in the US. Its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 FE, launched a year earlier at about $650. Put the two spec sheets side by side and most rows are identical: the same 6.7-inch 120 Hz screen, the same 4,900 mAh battery, the same 50 MP main camera with a 3x telephoto, the same 45 W wired charging. The difference is mostly under the glass, and the question this comparison answers is whether that difference is worth roughly $50 more, or whether the older phone, which Samsung has already discounted in the US, is the smarter buy.

Price and availability

The Galaxy S26 FE starts at $699.99 for 128 GB, according to Samsung's US newsroom (August 27, 2026). In the US it comes in 128 GB and 256 GB, with carriers selling it from September 3 and Samsung.com and retailers from September 4. Samsung also bundles six months of Google AI Pro. The Galaxy S25 FE launched on September 4, 2025 at about $650 (Neowin's launch report). Samsung's own spec sheet lists 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB for the S25 FE globally, so the 512 GB tier exists on the older phone in some markets while the newer US lineup stops at 256 GB.

Street price is where the older phone pulls ahead. SamMobile reported on April 16, 2026 that Samsung USA was taking $150 off the S25 FE for buyers without a trade-in, a limited-time offer with no stated end date. That article does not give the resulting dollar price, and we have not confirmed what the S25 FE costs today, so check Samsung.com and the big retailers before you decide. The point stands either way: the gap between the two phones at list price is about $50, and it can be much wider when the older one is on sale.

Display and design: effectively unchanged

Both phones use a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that adapts between 60 and 120 Hz. For the S26 FE, Samsung states a peak brightness of 1,900 nits. Samsung's S25 FE spec sheet mentions its Vision Booster brightness feature but prints no nit figure, so there is no manufacturer number to compare it against, and neither phone has been run through a lab display test that we could cite for this article. In practice that means the screen is not a reason to pay more.

The bodies are nearly interchangeable too. The S26 FE measures 161.6 x 76.9 x 7.4 mm and weighs 193 g; the S25 FE is 161.3 x 76.6 x 7.4 mm and 190 g. Three grams and a third of a millimeter will not change how either phone sits in a hand or a pocket, and both are rated IP68 for dust and up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for 30 minutes. If you own a case for one, expect it not to fit the other, but that is the only practical consequence of the new dimensions.

Performance: the one real upgrade

The S26 FE uses the Exynos 2500, built on a 3 nm process; the S25 FE uses the Exynos 2400 on 4 nm. Notebookcheck summed up the new phone's launch bluntly: "All you really get is a newer SoC." What that buys in daily use is a smoother margin for heavy apps, gaming and on-device features over the several years you will keep the phone, plus whatever efficiency a smaller process node delivers. We are not quoting benchmark scores here: the figures available before launch came from Geekbench leaks that disagreed with each other, and variant and firmware differences make leaked numbers a poor basis for a buying decision.

Both phones have 8 GB of RAM, so the extra headroom comes from the chip rather than from memory. If your current phone is two or three years old, either FE will feel fast. The newer chip matters most to people who play demanding games or who plan to hold the phone until 2033.

Battery and charging: same cell, a better label

Samsung lists 4,900 mAh typical capacity for both phones; the S26 FE's rated minimum is 4,755 mAh. Wired charging is 45 W on both, and Samsung rates both for up to 65 percent in around 30 minutes when you use a 45 W adapter, which is sold separately. Both also list fast wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare, which lets the phone charge earbuds or another phone from its back. In short, nothing about the charging experience changes, and the charger you already own for one will work for the other.

The one measured difference is on paper. SamMobile, reading the EU energy label entries for each model, reported on August 19, 2026 that the S26 FE is rated for up to 50 hours per charge, about 7.5 hours more than the S25 FE, which points to the efficiency gain of the newer chip. The same label rates battery endurance in charge cycles: 1,200 cycles before health falls below 80 percent for the S26 FE against 2,000 for the S25 FE. These are manufacturer-submitted regulatory figures, not lab tests of real-world use, and the S25 FE's value was inferred by SamMobile from the stated difference, so treat the comparison as indicative. It does suggest a trade: slightly better single-charge stamina on the new phone, longer expected cell life on the old one.

Cameras: the same hardware list

Samsung's spec sheets list the same rear setup on both: a 50 MP main camera with optical stabilization at f/1.8, a 12 MP ultra-wide at f/2.2, and an 8 MP 3x optical telephoto with stabilization at f/2.4. Both have a 12 MP front camera. The S26 FE adds software: Samsung highlights My FanCam, which keeps a chosen subject centered, along with improved Nightography and Super Steady video with Horizontal Lock. Samsung also lists up to 30x digital zoom for the new phone. No independent lab such as DXOMARK has scored either phone that we could cite, so we make no claim about which takes better photos; with identical sensors on paper, expect any difference to come from processing rather than optics.

Software and update length

This is a quieter advantage for the newer phone. The S26 FE ships with Android 17 and One UI 9, the first S26 model to do so, while the S25 FE launched with Android 16 and One UI 8. Samsung promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates on both, counted from each phone's global launch date. Because the S26 FE launched a year later, its support window runs a year longer: roughly into 2033 against 2032 for the S25 FE. For someone who keeps phones for six or seven years, that extra year is a real reason to pay a little more.

If you were hoping for a redesign, this is not it. Samsung kept the screen size, the camera list, the battery capacity and the charging speed, so the S26 FE reads as an update to the platform rather than a new phone. That matches how the FE line has worked: it borrows the flagship formula at a lower price, and year to year the changes are modest. The practical consequence is that the right moment to upgrade is determined by your current phone, not by this one. Owners of the S25 FE have no reason to move, and anyone on a phone from 2022 or earlier will see far larger gains from either model than from the difference between them.

Spec table

The table below summarizes the figures from Samsung's own spec sheets (the S26 FE US sheet and the S25 FE global sheet).

Which one to buy

Buy the Galaxy S26 FE if you want the newest chip and the longest update window, if you play demanding games, or if you will keep the phone for six or seven years and the extra year of updates matters. It costs about $50 more at list price, and it is the phone to pick if the two are within roughly $50 of each other when you shop.

Buy the Galaxy S25 FE if you want the best value. The screen, battery, charging, cameras and build are the same on paper, and Samsung has already cut its US price in the past. If you find it $100 or more below the S26 FE, the newer chip alone is hard to justify for everyday use: messaging, video, maps and photos. It also has the longer rated battery cycle life on the EU label.

Either way, check today's price before buying, because both figures above are dated: the S26 FE price is Samsung's launch price from August 27, 2026, and the S25 FE discount information is from April 2026.
